Ultimate Best of Show was awarded to the 1960 Buick Invicta built by Andy Leach at CAL Automotive Creations.

A 1960 Buick Invicta built by Andy Leach at CAL Automotive Creations was crowned Ultimate Best in Show of the 2024 Barrett-Jackson Cup competition, presented by Castrol with support from Summit Racing Equipment, Meguiar’s, TMI and Orrefors, Kosta Boda and ProSlat, which recognizes the talent and craftsmanship of custom car and truck builders, as part of the 2024 Scottsdale Auction at WestWorld.

The stunning Invicta is powered by a 401ci Nailhead engine with a crank-mounted Pro-Charger backed by a 4L80E transmission. The car rides on a CAL Automotive custom chassis with a wedge sectioned body and all the trim is machined one-off brass, including the rear bumper.

Inside this Buick is a full custom interior by Starline Hot Rod Interiors featuring front and rear bucket seats with pearlized leather and floating armrests. The exterior is finished in Sherwin-Williams’ “Aphrodite’s Envy,” applied by The Painthouse. Unique features include over 2,000 one-off machined parts and 9-piece interlocking component wheels with machined faux white wall.

The Invicta received the $20,000 cash purse, among other prizes. The top five finalists included a 1968 Ford Mustang, nicknamed “Rampant” and built by East Bay Muscle Cars; a 1927 Ford Roadster built by Paul Behling and Jesse Greening – Shadow Rods and Greening Auto Company; a 1967 Chevrolet C10 Pickup built by Zach Ingram of ZRods Customs and Fiber Forged Composites; and a 1959 Chevrolet Impala built by Troy Gudgel of BBT Fabrications.

The People’s Choice winner, which was a 1961 Volvo PV544 Custom built by over 165 women from across the country, led by Bogi Lateiner at her shop, Girl Gang Garage.

Renowned builders Bobby Alloway and Troy Trepanier selected the Top Five finalists and ultimately the Best in Show winner; however, Barrett-Jackson fans had the opportunity to select the People’s Choice winner, which was a 1961 Volvo PV544 Custom built by over 165 women from across the country, led by Bogi Lateiner at her shop, Girl Gang Garage.

Known as Iron Maven, the Volvo merges the 1961 PV544 body with the drivetrain, conveniences and amenities of a 2019 Volvo S60 Hybrid. It utilizes the 4-cylinder turbo and supercharged engine, 8-speed automatic transmission, rear electric motor and plug-in hybrid system, stock S60 rear suspension and custom front suspension.

The S60 was shortened by 18 inches and PV544 fenders were widened by 11 inches. This build utilizes an extensive use of 3D printing and classic metal shaping, celebrating old and new technology to create this one-of-a-kind car.

Close to 90% of the technology of the S60 is incorporated into the PV544, including front and rear camera, sunroof, keyless entry, infotainment system and fully adjustable seats.
